Apple to introduce SMS filter extension in India: report

Apple is reportedly about to introduce filter extensions for messages in 12 subcategories in Transactions and Promotions on iOS 16 only for Indian users. These subcategories include Finance, Reminders, Orders, Health, Utilities, Weather, Carrier, Rewards, and more. The new update is supposed to allow developers to incorporate these filters to categorize non-personal messages into subcategories. Apple’s SMS filter is already available in India and Brazil for limited categories. According to another report, Apple will add LTE/4G network data backup support in iOS 16 for iPhone and iPad users.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the tech giant, Apple, is going to add improved message filtering with the iOS 16 update for Indian users. The feature was reportedly spotted in the second developer beta of iOS 16. The new feature would allow developers to filter messages into 12 subcategories under the Transactions and Promotions categories. These subcategories include filters like Finance, Reminders, Orders, Health Utilities, Weather, Carrier, Rewards, Deals, Coupons, and more.

With this feature, Indian iPhone users will receive updates on events like movie or track ticket booking as Siri suggestions in chat threads and calendar inbox . The report adds that with iOS 16, users in the United States will be able to report spam messages to carriers with a new spam reporting feature. The feature is supposed to be available only with certain carriers.

Apple is also adding support for backing up iPhones and iPads over an LTE/4G connection that was previously only possible over a 5G or Wi-Fi connection, according to a report by MacRumors. With this new support feature, users can now choose to back up their iPhones or iPads using a 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi connection. Backing up over a 4G connection can be slow, but the extra choice can be helpful.
