Arrest of Kadokawa chief confuses sprawling media empire

The September 14 arrest of the chairman of publishing conglomerate Kadokawa sent shockwaves through the Japanese media world as one of the most powerful moguls is now accused of bribery in connection with the Tokyo Games.

The Tokyo prosecutor’s office says Tsuguhiko Kadokawa, 79, gave a total of $76 million to Haruyuki Takahashi, a former director of the Tokyo Organizing Committee, through a consulting firm run by a friend of his, Kazumasa Fukami.
