Chris Hemsworth thanks fans for creating Spiderhead ‘No. 1 on Netflix’

Chris Hemsworth thanks fans for making his new Spiderhead movie ‘No. 1 on Netflix in 45 countries’

Chris Hemsworth’s new Netflix film, Spiderhead, has topped the charts in 45 countries since it hit the streaming platform on June 17.

The 38-year-old Australian actor, best known for playing Thor in Marvel superhero films, thanked his fans for supporting the film in an Instagram post on Thursday.

“A big thank you to everyone who streamed Spiderhead and made it the #1 movie on Netflix every day of its opening weekend in 45 countries and the Top 10 in 93 countries!” he wrote.

Chris also thanked the cast, crew and crew at Netflix, as well as director Joseph Kosinski and actors Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett.

“We are all so proud of this movie. I love you guys and thank you!” he added.

In Spiderhead, Chris plays mad scientist Steve Abnesti, who tests psychotropics on convicts in a state-of-the-art prison complex.

He told the Courier Mail earlier this month that he had jumped at the chance to step away from the blockbuster superhero genre.

“I wanted something more contained and something that just focused on the character, and this thing came along and I grabbed it,” he said.

Chris will be the next star of Thor: Love and Thunder.

He also recently filmed the Mad Max Furiosa prequel in Broken Hill, NSW.

“A new journey in the Mad Max saga begins,” Chris wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of the clapperboard used on set.

The spin-off is based on the character Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Franchise creator George Miller is back as the film’s director and co-writer.
