College Football Line Moves

Opening weekend is just seven games ahead of next week’s full schedule of college football games. Opening weeks usually have significant line moves as the odds have been posted for months. Some spreads have moved by at least 6 points, or more in the case of Florida A&M with their announcement that 20 would not play against North Carolina due to eligibility issues.

While there will be no top 25 teams in action on Saturday, August 27, there are still some interesting games that have seen notable spread adjustments due to Saturday morning releases by prominent and proven college football handicappers.

The website Covers.com has a college football show with a YouTube video counting down to the picks of leading professional handicappers.

Brad Powers Sports provided a pick on Duquesne +45.5 vs Florida State, using commonly available lines with some sportsbooks like FanDuel featuring Duquesne +46.5. With a live screen on YouTube showing the point spread and totals of at least 15 sportsbooks, the lines moved in seconds and FanDuel had dropped to +43.5.

“Anytime you’ve got such a wide spread, it’s usually about the favorite,” Powers said. “It’s about the lack of motivation with FSU having LSU on deck next week (look ahead), and the Seminoles have some major injuries down the offensive line as well.”

It’s likely Florida State isn’t playing that up-tempo or showing off their full arsenal, and some starters could also rest in the second half if the Seminoles take a big lead.

FanDuel Sportsbook dropped the point spread to Duquesne +38.5 before settling for +41.5, along with many other sportsbooks.

Another Covers college football show featured on Saturday morning Rectangular Sports, which is another market influencer and handicapping service. They put out Connecticut +25 against Utah State, and the line was lowered to +23 and settled at +23.5 or +24 at many sportsbooks.
