Indian rowers Reeth Tennison, Sreeja Akula and Manika Batra won their respective matches in 32 women’s singles to advance to the next round at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games on Thursday. Akula defeated Malaysia’s Karen Lyne 12-10, 12-10, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8. Tennison, triumphed 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3 against England’s Charlotte Bardsley. The winners of the Round of 32 will compete in the women’s singles round of 16 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on August 5.
Indian star paddler Manika Batra defeated Canadian Ching Nam Fu 11-5, 11-2, 11-7, 11-6 in a stunning women’s singles performance of 32. She is the defending gold medalist in this category.
India won their men’s doubles match. Indian Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty took the opening match 11-6 against Iosif Elia and Christos Savva from Cyprus.
Playing at the NEC Table Tennis Match Court 6, the Indian duo won the second game 11-5 with a dominant performance over the Cypriot pair. The Indian duo continued to control the match, winning the third game 11-1 and the match 11-6, 11-5, 11-1.
Previously, Indian mixed doubles duo Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Manika Batra proved themselves in a league of their own against their Seychelles opponents Mick Crea and Laura Sinon as the paddlers finished the match 3-0 with no qualms advancing to the next round.
