‘Stay away from the table!’: Eurovision’s Maneskin pokes fun at last year’s ‘cocaine’ controversy as they return to song contest

Eurovision’s Maneskin poked fun at last year’s cocaine controversy as they returned to the show in the highly anticipated finale.

The Italian group, who won the Eurovision Song Contest last year, were notoriously cleared of drug use after being asked to take a drug test by show bosses.

Their lead singer Damiano David has been accused of snorting drugs after video footage of the finale saw him leaning towards a table in what was wrongly interpreted by observers as a sniffing motion.

And after performing their new single Supermodel during Saturday’s finale at the PalaOlimpico in Turin, Damiano couldn’t help but crack a joke about the controversy.

When asked if he had any tips for his year’s acts, he hilariously replied, “Have fun and stay away from the table guys!” Do not do it !’

After last year’s controversy, the band were forced to deny the allegations, with Damiano claiming the band’s guitarist Thomas Raggi simply broke a glass in the Green Room.

They said on Instagram at the time: “We are really shocked by what some people are saying about Damiano doing drugs.

“We are really AGAINST drugs and we have never used cocaine. We are ready to be tested, because we have nothing to hide.

“We are here to play our music and we are very happy with our victory in Eurovision and we want to thank everyone for supporting us. Rock’n’roll never dies. We love you. (sic)’

After Damiano was asked to take a drug test by Eurovision bosses, the singer was cleared to use drugs by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Last year, Maneskin came away as the winner of Eurovision 2021 thanks to his popular track Zitti e buoni, which allowed him to score 524 points.

The lead singer, who did not reveal how he injured himself, had previously reassured fans that he would still be in great shape, but he stumbled a few times dropping his crutches on stage.

Sharing a clip of himself earlier doing his skincare routine with a face mask, he wrote on his Instagram story, “My ankle is bad but my skin can still be perfect.”

In another message, he added, “Tomorrow we’ll break the scene anyway, don’t worry about me.” I love you all. (sic)’
