Fans react as Team India picks seven batters for rain-shortened T20 game against Australia

For the rain-shortened game against Australia in Nagpur, Team India made the unusual choice to go in with only five good bowling options (including an all-rounder). Bhuvneshwar Kumar was dropped when the Men in Blue bolstered their clout by selecting Rishabh Pant, bringing the team total to seven batters.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has not been in the best shape lately and his status in the Indian team is being questioned. Few would have thought that Pant would be used as a replacement.

Fans on Twitter were surprised to see the hosts select seven real batsmen for an eight-over match instead of tackling their bowling problems. They were also looking forward to seeing what would happen in the eight-over match.

India got a kite courtesy of Rohit Sharma, who appeared to be trading only in sixes, scoring 30 runs in the two overs of the Powerplay along with KL Rahul.

Adam Zampa went on the attack and claimed the wicket from KL Rahul in his first over. He turned the race on its head when he finished Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession in his second, but India was still ahead of the required pace. It gave Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma time to consolidate the inning, but the former left in the penultimate left.
