Vladimir Putin is a “crazy man who is getting crazier” and could start World War III according to a former Conservative MP.
While the Kremlin leader has stepped up threats of nuclear attack on Europe, former Treasury chief secretary David Mellor has said the Russian president has been corrupted by his own desire for absolute power.
Mr Mellor’s analysis comes as the Kremlin has renewed threats of nuclear strikes against Ukraine’s international allies, including the UK among other European nations.

The former MP, who served under former Prime Minister John Major, added to the growing anxiety felt by military analysts as President Putin’s war in Ukraine rages on and Moscow’s threats of aggression against the nations of the world continue to worsen.

“Putin is a different story,” Mr Mellor said when appearing on GB News.
“I think he really is a mad man and he’s getting crazier every moment.
“Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
“If you ever want a good example of that, step up Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.”
The former politician suggested that President Putin’s mental health had deteriorated rapidly as the Kremlin leader aimed to expand his power by capturing Ukraine, and the renewed focus on nuclear threats could be linked to reports according to which his health is in serious decline.

He added: “If he is really dying of various diseases that have lined up to catch him, would he like to take us with him?”
Mr Mellor said the only real defense against a nuclear attack from Russia is a promise of mutually assured destruction, meaning the UK would launch a nuclear counterattack on Moscow.
A nuclear launch would therefore effectively eradicate civilization as we know it, creating a devastating loss on a global scale.

Mr Mellor suggested that President Putin’s bold discussion of nuclear weapons is a sign of the Russian leader’s poor health, as he acts with little regard for his own well-being.
Analysts have suggested Vladimir Putin may be suffering from some form of terminal illness, as evidenced by several symptoms seen during his recent public appearances.
President Putin has appeared pale and unbalanced, even limping at some official events, fueling rumors that his physical health is not as strong as the Kremlin suggests.

At a Kremlin meeting on Tuesday, President Putin re-emphasized the Russian-developed Satan II nuclear missile.
The RS-28 Sarmat missile, also called Satan II, is capable of reaching British shores in just three minutes.
Ukrainian media organization Ukrainska Pravda reported information originally covered by Russian state publication RIA Novosti, which recorded Putin’s key statements at the meeting.
President Putin has said successful tests of the Sarmat heavy intercontinental ballistic missile have been completed and he expects it to be in combat service by the end of the year.
