There was a fire in Zurich’s nightlife area on Saturday night. The operations center received several emergency calls shortly before midnight, as reported by Protection & Rescue Zurich. When the rescue workers arrived at the four-storey residential and commercial building, the flames were already several meters high on the ground floor. However, firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the floors above.

The city police, together with the caretaker, had already begun to evacuate the building before the rescue services arrived. While the fire brigade was fighting the fire, the approximately 30 rented rooms and apartments were searched for other people using respiratory protection. The building was now heavily smoked.

Eleven residents with breathing difficulties

Finally, the residents were able to return to the building around three hours later. However, the two lower floors are no longer habitable for the time being, as it is also said. It is still unclear what caused the fire. The authorities have started investigations.

The paramedics were on site with several ambulances, an emergency doctor and the large ambulance. As soon as they arrived, a total of eleven residents reported having breathing difficulties. They were checked for smoke inhalation. However, nobody had to be taken to the hospital. (abi)
