‘I was suicidal at times’: Deepika Padukone recalls suffering from depression


Deepika Padukone, a mental health advocate, spoke openly about her struggle with depression, even admitting that she had contemplated suicide.

The actress praised her mother, who she said recognized the signs and symptoms of her melancholy and advised her to get professional care. The actress launched an NGO to raise awareness about mental health in India.

According to Bollywoodlife, she said: “I was at a peak in my career, everything was going well, so there was no apparent reason why I felt what I was feeling, but I would collapse, there were days when I just wanted to sleep, because sleeping was a escape I was suicidal at times and had to deal with all of that My parents live in Bangalore and when they came to visit me you often boldly put yourself out there because you want to show them that you are busy well, until one day when my parents left and went back to bangalore and i suddenly had a breakdown my mom asked me the usual hygiene questions whether it was a friend or something at work or something happening i had no answer because it was none of these stuff, and it just came out of an empty holy place and she knew right away and that was god sent for me. I give all credit to my mom for understanding the signs and symptoms.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Deepika will next be seen in Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. The action film is being directed by Siddharth Anand for Yash Raj Productions and is slated for release on January 25, 2023. It is one of the highly anticipated films in Bollywood as it marks the return of SRK to the big screen after its last release in Zero. 2018.
