John Dean thinks Merrick Garland will file suit against Trump

John Dean believes Attorney General Merrick Garland will file a criminal case against Trump.

TSWT’s Jim Acosta asked, “Do you think the Justice Department will eventually do what Liz Cheney says and if they see a case, act?”

Dean replied:

I think they will. I think Merrick Garland is a Justice Department career man. He has a very good sense of what it’s like to be in that department. And he knows that — those staff attorneys would revolt if he turned down a clear case that was going on against this president. I think he should. His other alternative, of course, is to appoint a special prosecutor because he thinks that’s political and through that process, try to delay the decision.

But the other thing is, Merrick Garland wants to bring the Justice Department back to where it was when it still had respect. Before the Trump team tore it apart and depressed many lawyers. So they want to do this internally. I think Garland will. I think he has now given two press conferences where he said that anyone involved criminally will be dealt with. He’s pretty much said that if it’s the president, I’ll sue the president. So I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt and I have very few doubts.

There seems to be a growing consensus among legal experts that the Justice Department is increasingly likely to indict Donald Trump. Before the 1/6 commission hearings, it was difficult to find many experts in the legal community who believed Trump would be charged. Much of the conversation was criticizing the Justice Department and Garland for not going after Trump.

The DOJ’s investigation into Trump and the fake voters became widely known, and the 1/6 Committee uncovered a mountain of evidence against Trump and his associates.

Now the surprise will be if the Justice Department does not take action against Trump.
