Man convicted of assaulting teen in Sherman Hills


June 22 – WILKES-BARRE – One of two men charged with assaulting a minor over a missing gun from a Sherman Hills apartment has been convicted in Luzerne County Court.

Tayquan Edgarfran Jones, 37, known as Geetz, of Sherman Hills, and Tyquan J. Smith, 29, known as Whoopty, of Brooklyn, NY, were charged by Wilkes-Barre police with luring a teenager to an apartment where the youngster was confronted. about a missing firearm on March 10, 2021, according to court records.

The minor told police that Smith forced him to strip naked and stand in a bathtub, where Smith threatened to kill him with a gun, court records show.

Smith left the apartment and told Jones to watch the minor.

Jones allowed the miner to dress. When the minor attempted to escape, a struggle ensued when Jones stabbed the teenager in the abdomen, court records show.

Smith returned to the apartment and allegedly struck the teenager repeatedly with the butt of the gun.

Judge David W. Lupas sentenced Jones to one to two years and two years probation for aggravated assault and unlawful restraint. Jones pleaded guilty to the charges on December 30.

Lupas allowed Jones to serve his sentence at the County Correctional Facility.

Smith pleaded guilty May 9 to aggravated assault and is expected to be sentenced July 12.
