It looks like the Hulu miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers will be back for a season two, according to Variety.
The streaming service is expected to announce soon that the David E. Kelley drama, directed by actress Nicole Kidman, has been greenlit for a new batch of episodes.
Once the decision to continue with the drama becomes official, the show will then be billed as an ongoing drama, instead of a limited series, for this year’s awards season.
Hulu is set to announce that Nine Perfect Strangers will be renewed for a second season; the Nicole Kidman-directed drama also stars (pictured L-R) Luke Evans, Melissa McCarthy, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg and Bobby Cannavale, as well as (not pictured) Michael Shannon, Regina Hall, Asher Keddie, Grace Van Patten , Tiffany Boone, and Manny Jacinto
By changing its category status to ongoing drama, the show will avoid any potential controversy similar to where the HBO series Big Little Lies won multiple awards in the limited series category ahead of the announcement of a second season.
The eight-episode first season of Nine Perfect Strangers premiered on Hulu on August 18, 2021.
Based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, author of Big Little Lies, the story took place over a period of 10 days and focused on a group of characters in a health and wellness complex in the fictional town of Cabrillo, California.
Promising to transform and heal guests, as part of its appeal, the resort turns out not to be what it seems, and the guests soon discover many secrets about each other and the host of the station.
Looming Question: With plans for a new season rolling now, the big unanswered question looming is whether the season one cast, including Kidman, will be back for season two, or will the show take- Will it go the way of an anthology and will it bring new main characters
Along with Kidman, the series starred Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Bobby Cannavale, Regina Hall, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg, Asher Keddie, Grace Van Patten, Tiffany Boone, and Manny Jacinto.
With plans for a new season moving forward, there are still some big questions that need to be answered.
Arguably, the most obvious of those unanswered questions facing writers and producers: will the plot feature the same characters as they travel after their 10-day stay at the wellness retreat, or will the series become an anthology and bring in a new cast? all seasons?
Details for season two, including the cast and a plot synopsis, are still being worked out ahead of the renewal announcement.
