Nikhat Zareen won gold at the Women’s World Boxing Championship last week, becoming the fifth Indian woman to win a gold medal in the history of the tournament. The 25-year-old took to social media on Wednesday to share a photo with Indian boxing legend Mary Kom, who has won six World Championship gold medals, and wrote “No wins is complete without the blessing of your idol”. The two share the story, after falling out over qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the photo went viral, getting over 10,000 likes and 500 retweets.

There was a lot of spotlight on the women’s boxing trials match Mary Kom against Nikhat Zareen in 2019 after the latter publicly demanded a fair Olympic selection trial. After her victory, Mary Kom could be seen walking past her opponent without shaking hands.
“Why should I shake her hand? If she wants others to respect her, then she should respect others first. I don’t like people with such a nature. Just prove your point to the inside the ring, not outside,” said Mary Kom. said by ANI at the time.
However, the two seem to have buried the hatchet.
The six-time world champion had congratulated Nikhat Zareen after her huge victory.
“Congratulations @nikhat_zareen on winning gold. So proud of you for your historic performances and all the best for your future endeavours,” she tweeted.
In the photo shared by Nikhat Zareen, the legendary boxer is seen with a beaming smile.

Speaking to The Switzerland Times, Nikhat Zareen recently said that she moved on from the incident with Mary Kom and forgave her.
In the 52kg final at the World Boxing Championship in Turkey, Zareen beat Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas with a 5-0 unanimous decision in her favor.
