‘Nobody even wanted to play’: Griner’s teammate reacts in tears to player’s punishment – Video

Phoenix Mercury player Skylar Diggins-Smith reacts after a Russian court sentenced her teammate Brittney Griner to nine years in prison and a 1 million ruble fine for a drug offence.

“Nobody even wanted to play today,” Diggins-Smith said during an emotional press conference with fellow Phoenix Mercury player Diamond DeShields. Griner, who played off-season in Russia for the Phoenix Mercury team, was arrested in February for possession of cannabis at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
