Paul Pelosi, husband of Nancy Pelosi, charged with impaired driving in California crash


“Charges filed today include driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury and driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher causing injury,” according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Napa County Thursday.

In California, these offenses can be misdemeanors or felonies, but in this case the district attorney’s office filed misdemeanor charges “based on the extent of the injuries sustained by the victim.”

Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested May 28 after leaving a dinner party at a friend and Democratic donor about six miles from the Pelosis home, The New York Times reported. Pelosi was driving his Porsche when he attempted to turn left and was hit by an oncoming Jeep. Immediately after, authorities said no injuries were reported. Thursday’s statement from the Napa County prosecutor did not specify the injuries sustained in the crash.

Nancy Pelosi’s office did not immediately return a request for comment on news of the charges, but told The Switzerland Times after the initial arrest that she “will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the east coast”.
