Police have released their report of the car accident that led to the death of Indiana Rep. Jackie Walorski (R), now says that the car Walorski was in collided with another car after crossing the center line of the state highway.
Why it matters: The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office initially said Walorski and two of her staffers, Emma Thomson and Zachery Potts, were killed when a car traveling from the opposite direction rammed into oncoming traffic in northern Indiana.
- Pott was driving the vehicle at the time.
- The driver of the other car, Edith Schmucker, was also killed and an investigation is underway.
- It is as yet unclear why cars driven by Potts swerved across the centerline, the sheriff’s office said.
The big picture: Walorski’s death is another huge loss to the Hill community, which has suffered the deaths of two other House members this year.
- Walorski was the highest-ranking Republican on the House Ethics Committee and had served in Congress since 2013.
