Police parade 22 suspected thugs in Niger


The Niger State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected thugs as part of its ongoing bid to reduce violence, youth unrest and other crimes and offenses in Minna, the capital of Niger. State.

State Police Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun made the revelation in a statement to Minna reporters.

He said they were arrested by a combined team of police officers mobilized from the Department of Operations, Bosso and Minna area commands.

According to him, the effort was another series of criminal hideout raids in the metropolis which include Angwan-Daji, Angwan-Kanawa, Limawa, Maitumbi, Barkin-Sale and Makera in Bosso and Chanchaga LGAs of the state.

The arrested suspects are Umaru Ibrahim aged 20, Abba Adamu aged 29, Nuhu Alhassan aged 20, Abubakar Ahmed aged 21, Abubakar Mohammed aged 16, Lukman Isah aged 21, Danjuma Musa aged 36 years old, Philimon Ishaku aged 17, Aminu Hassan aged 20, ThankGod Sunday aged 19, Ayuba Timothy aged 18, Danjuma Musa Haruna aged 18, Abdulkarim Mohammed aged 17 and Kabiru Usman aged 23 years.

The others are Usman Isah aged 19, Musa Yusuf aged 21, Kabiru Yahaya aged 18, Masa’udu Yunusa aged 16, Inyas Musa aged 21, Nasiru Abdullahi aged 21, Musa Suleiman aged 21 years old and Jabir Suleiman 18 years old.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to explore the administration of the criminal justice system and partner with the judiciary for the diligent prosecution of arrested suspects by referring to each suspect’s prior criminal records.

However, he urged members of the public, parents and guardians to cooperate with the police and other security agencies to achieve a crime-free environment in the state.

The statement further reassured that the Command will not slacken its efforts to ensure that the disbelievers who specialize in disturbing public peace, especially in the metropolis of Minna, are indeed dealt with accordingly.

Exhibits recovered from suspects include; a saw, seven cutlasses, eight envelopes of presumed cannabis, a pair of scissors, two knives, sticks and a bottle containing illicit substances.
