Pregnant woman, unborn child identified by coroner as 2 of 6 victims killed in fiery crash in Windsor Hills

WINDSOR HILLS, California (KABC) — Authorities Friday identified a pregnant woman and her unborn child as two of six people killed in a fiery accident after a speeding car ran a red light and collided with cars at a busy Windsor Hills intersection.

Los Angeles County coroners said Asherey Ryan and her unborn son were killed in the collision.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., a Mercedes-Benz sedan caused a crash involving as many as six cars at a gas station in California, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Several people were thrown from the cars and two vehicles caught fire. News video of the scene showed the charred and mangled cars, as well as a children’s car seat among the rubble that covered the street.

Surveillance showed that the Mercedes drove through an intersection and hit at least two cars that exploded in flames and crashed into a sidewalk and hit the sign on the corner of the gas station. A fiery streak led to one car. A vehicle was cut in two.

“It looked like the entire intersection was on fire from corner to corner,” witness Harper Washington said. “A lot of sparks and electricity. I had the impression that at first I really thought they had dropped a bomb on us. I thought a new world war had started. Then I realized it was a car that ran into the sign.”

“Once the fire went out and it was booming, I realized it was two cars there. You could see the people on fire and that’s just sad. I’m really praying for the people and the community.”

Bystanders tried to help but struggled with the flames.

Witness Alphonso Word choked when he described seeing the pregnant woman and a child after the crash.

‘It hurts. It does,” Word said. ‘Because I have a grandson. I know people who have children. When a mother is pregnant … that child never had a chance.’
