Presidential polls: NDA candidate expected to file June 25


Presidential elections will take place on July 18 and the votes will be counted on July 21.

BJP-led NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is expected to be nominated on June 25, sources said on Tuesday.

Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday was declared the presidential candidate of the BJP-led NDA. She is a former Governor of Jharkhand and a former Minister of Odisha.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced today that former finance and external affairs minister Yashwant Sinha will be the joint candidate of opposition parties in the presidential election, to be held on July 18, 2022, a statement said.

The TSWT for submitting candidacies for the presidential election is June 29, the ballot will take place on July 18 and the votes will be counted on July 21.

Speaking exclusively to NNA by phone, Ms. Murmu said she was surprised to learn of his candidacy and was unable to believe it and noted that she will work within the powers of the President enshrined in the constitution.

She said she would contact members of the electoral college for their support.

“I’m surprised, I couldn’t believe it. I’m grateful, I don’t wish to talk much (at this stage),” said Draupadi Murmu, a former governor of Jharkhand.

“Whatever powers the president has in the Constitution, I will work accordingly,” she said in response to a question about her priorities if elected president.

Asked about the contest with opposition parties on Tuesday declaring former union minister Yashwant Sinha as their presidential candidate, she said there were candidates in the fray and she would seek support from MPs and deputies.

“There are candidates. Our job is to reach out to people, reach out to members of the Electoral College and seek their cooperation. I will ask all parties, all states to support us,” he said. she declared.

Born into a poor tribal family from a village in Mayurbhanj, a backward district of Odisha, Draupadi Murmu completed his education despite difficult circumstances. She taught at Shri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur.

Born on June 20, 1958, she graduated with a BA from Ramadevi Women’s College Bhubaneswar.

She started her political career as Vice President of Rairangpur NAC. Drupadi Murmu was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur between 2000 and 2004. As a minister, she held the portfolios of Transport and Commerce, Livestock and Fisheries. She again served as a member of the Odisha assembly from 2004 to 2009.

In 2007, the Odisha assembly honored her with the “Nilakantha Award” for the best deputy. She was a Junior Assistant in the Department of Irrigation and Power between 1979 and 1983. She held several organizational positions in the BJP and was Vice President of ST Morcha State in 1997.

Draupadi Murmu was a member of BJP’s ST Morcha National Executive from 2013 to 2015 and served as Head of BJP’s Mayurbhanj (West) District in 2010 and 2013. Between 2006 and 2009, she served as Head of BJP’s ST Morcha BJP in Odisha. She was a national executive member of BJP ST Morcha from 2002 to 2009.
