On Wednesday, Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, holds an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council.

Details: In particular, Putin discussed with the permanent members the preparations of the Security Council for the national election day in Russia in September.

“It is necessary to prepare and hold this major domestic political event with dignity, to ensure the necessary conditions and security.”

Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier on Wednesday that Putin was working in the Kremlin: he had working meetings, an operational meeting with permanent members of the Security Council and preparations for the BRICS summit [BRICS is the acronym coined to associate five major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa]which will be held by videoconference on June 23 and 24.

Peskov did not reveal the topics of discussion in the Security Council.

The meeting comes amid active hostilities in Ukraine and amid rising tensions around the Baltic states.


According to one version, Russia may try to organize pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories on the day of national elections in Russia, September 11.
