Ravichandran Ashwin met the Indian contingent in England after recovering from COVID-19

The Indian cricket team received some good news ahead of Thursday’s warm-up match against Leicestershire as veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin joined the squad after recovering from COVID-19. The Indian team had left for the UK on June 16, but the spinner was not part of the contingent as he was in quarantine after his test result came back positive for COVID-19. In 86 Tests, Ashwin took 442 wickets and is expected to be a crucial cog in the fortunes of the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma.

BCCI tweeted an image of the spinner in a squad group ahead of the warm-up match at Leicester. The spinner was named in the XI.

After the IPL, Ashwin had played a Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) League red ball game where he played 20 overs to get long playing time.

The Indian cricket team managed by Rohit Sharma are off to serious business in England as they embark on a campaign to win the Test series against England. The visitors lead 2-1 in the series which had to be halted mid-last year due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Indian camp. The rescheduled Test will be played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham from July 1. Ahead of the all-important test, the Indians started their tour with a warm-up match against Leicestershire on Thursday.
