Samsung unveiled the 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP3 sensor on Thursday. The latest image sensor succeeds last year’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor and has 0.56 micron (μm) pixels. It contains 200 million pixels in a 1/1.4 optical format. It’s supposed to capture 8K video at 30 frames per second (fps) with minimal loss in field of view. The South Korean brand has confirmed that mass production of its new ISOCELL HP3 sensor will begin later this year. It unveiled the world’s first 108-megapixel camera sensor for smartphones in 2019.

The company announced the launch of the new ISOCELL HP3 sensor via its press room. It is claimed to be the first mobile sensor with the smallest 0.56 micron pixels in the industry. The ISOCELL HP3 is said to have a pixel size 12% smaller than the 0.64 micron pixels of its predecessor. It contains 200 million pixels in a 1/1.4 optical format with approximately 20% reduction in camera module area. This would allow smartphone companies to keep their devices slim.

With Super QPD autofocus capabilities, all pixels of the ISOCELL HP3 sensor are equipped with autofocus capabilities. Samsung has integrated Tetra2pixel technology on the ISOCELL HP3 sensor which allows it to operate as a 50 megapixel 1.12 micron or 2.24 micron sensor or a 12.5 megapixel sensor to take better photos in harsh conditions. low light.

Additionally, the ISOCELL HP3 sensor features a Smart-ISO Pro mechanism that helps create more vivid HDR images.
