Sony is turning Spider-Man’s Kraven The Hunter into Kraven The Animal Lover

Sony, in its quest to continue making the most confusing superhero movies possible, is making major changes to Kraven the Hunter, the Spider-Man villain who is the focus of its next big comic book release.

We’re in the post-Morbius era, but we might be heading for a new batch of memes with Kraven. Variety, speaking with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays Kraven, describes the character as “an animal lover and protector of the natural world.”

I’m sorry, an animal lover. A protective of the natural world? Are you sure you don’t mean “murderer” and “looter”? No, apparently not. Because Sony knows that the way you can make someone instantly hated is to show them in a photo with some kind or some poor murdered elephant, jaguar or tiger, they thought maybe it wasn’t great to base a movie on a guy who is literally known for doing just that.

well well they did understanding that it was fine to base a movie on him, but just…change him completely. Kraven the Hunter in the comics is… a hunter. He is known for hunting the most dangerous game in the world and his entire costume is made from animal skins, including a lion split face.

This new idea for the movie version makes it look like they’re turning Kraven into some kind of Poison Ivy-but-with-pets, and I can almost guarantee that the cold open of this movie is going to look like Kraven stalking a bunch of poachers in african safari somewhere before they or they can hunt endangered animals. The idea being that he is still a fair hunter… a hunter of hunters. This continues Sony’s plan of attempting to turn various Spider-Man villains into anti-heroes, something they’ve already attempted with success with Venom and less so with Morbius, en route to assembling the Sinister Six in a universe that doesn’t still doesn’t seem to have its own Spider-Man.

I have very, very little doubt that if Jared Leto’s Morbius was a bombshell, Aaron Taylor Johnson, who’s an even lesser-known star, won’t be able to make this anti-Kraven Kraven some kind of big box office hit. . I guess I could be wrong, but Venom really seems like a fluke at this point, and Spider-Man’s plans without Sony’s Spider-Man just get weirder and weirder as time goes on. It’s not even the weirdest concept, as it would be a movie they’re making for El Muerto, a villain who appears throughout Spider-man comics history for about twelve pages.

We’ll see how Kraven the Animal Lover goes here, but man, Sony, you’re wild.
