Swedish court upholds Huawei ban on 5G equipment sales

STOCKHOLM: A Swedish appeals court on Wednesday upheld a lower court ruling barring Chinese telecommunications company Huawei from selling 5G equipment in the Nordic country.

In 2020, Swedish telecommunications regulator PTS unexpectedly banned Huawei from supplying 5G equipment to Swedish mobile companies due to security concerns raised by Swedish security service SAPO, a decision the Chinese company contested. before the tribunal.

Last year, a lower court upheld that ruling, and Wednesday’s decision is another blow to Huawei’s hopes of arranging a return to Sweden.

Huawei’s Swedish unit said in a statement that it was disappointed with the verdict of the Stockholm Administrative Court of Appeal.

“We will analyze the decision and assess our next steps, including further legal remedies under Swedish and European law, in order to continue to protect our legitimate rights and interests,” Huawei wrote.
