Rescuers were searching for a woman trapped under the rubble of a damaged house when torrential rains hit several parts of Uttarakhand, triggering landslides in the hills and disrupting power and water supplies in several towns.

A house was damaged after heavy rainfall in Kumrada village in the Chinyalisaur area of ​​Uttarkashi district around 1:30 am, the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) said here.

A woman who lived in the house became trapped in the rubble, it said, and a search is underway for her.

Several highways and more than 100 rural expressways were blocked by piles of debris after landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the hills.

The Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway was blocked by rocks and boulders falling from the hills near Helgugad and Swarigad in Uttarkashi, while the Vikasnagar-Kalsi-Barkot national highway in Dehradun district was also blocked, the SEOC said.

Water supply pipelines burst at several points in the Raipur area of ​​the city as transformers went out of order and disrupted power supplies in nearly a dozen areas, the SEOC said.
