Rescuers were searching for a woman trapped under the rubble of a damaged house when torrential rains hit several parts of Uttarakhand, triggering landslides in the hills and disrupting power and water supplies in several towns.
A house was damaged after heavy rainfall in Kumrada village in the Chinyalisaur area of Uttarkashi district around 1:30 am, the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) said here.
A woman who lived in the house became trapped in the rubble, it said, and a search is underway for her.
Several highways and more than 100 rural expressways were blocked by piles of debris after landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the hills.
The Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway was blocked by rocks and boulders falling from the hills near Helgugad and Swarigad in Uttarkashi, while the Vikasnagar-Kalsi-Barkot national highway in Dehradun district was also blocked, the SEOC said.
Heavy rains ravaged Dehradun for the second consecutive day on Thursday, flooding the streets and disrupting power supplies in many parts of the city.
More than half a dozen places in the capital including Chandrabani Choyla, Shimla bypass, Chakrata road, Bahal chawk, Lansdowne chawk and Maharaja Agrasen chawk witnessed heavy flooding.
Water supply pipelines burst at several points in the Raipur area of the city as transformers went out of order and disrupted power supplies in nearly a dozen areas, the SEOC said.
