Xi’s trip to Hong Kong in doubt after senior officials received COVID-19

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s alleged visit to Hong Kong to mark the city’s 25th anniversary of Chinese rule has been thrown into doubt, after senior city officials were infected with COVID-19.

Two members of new chief executive John Lee’s cabinet have tested positive for the virus, the government said in a statement on Thursday. Lee and his government are due to be sworn in on July 1, in a ceremony the Chinese leader has been widely invited to attend.
